New Vista Academy offers a range of classes and learning opportunities for behavioral health professionals. From continuing education courses that meet state licensing board requirements to state-approved curriculums for targeted case managers, community support associates and peer support specialists, we offer options to fit your needs and schedule. Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse

Supervision and Motivational Interviewing

This one day workshop will help participants provide effective supervision for Motivational Interviewing (MI) use. Participants will apply a partnering-for-change evaluation framework, use mirrored feedback in practice activities and prepare coaching plans. The session will also briefly explore incorporating MI into their ways to enhance and sustain MI practice in their teams.

Targeted Case Management Training Core, SMI, SED, SUD

Community Support Associate Training

This 10-hour training satisfies the curriculum requirements for Community Support Associate certification by the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, covering principles of recovery, promoting resilience, psychiatric rehabilitation, and effective communication. Provides an overview of mental health and co-occurring diagnoses, as well as appropriate crisis intervention skills.

Home Safety Visitation

, 1351 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY, Building 3, Newtwon Room

This interactive course is designed to present best practices to professionals who are conducting site/home visits.  The visit will be broken into 5 distinct areas where an in-depth discussion will occur challenging the current mindset of those engaging in this service. 

Instruction will focus on preparing our workforce to have a safe, successful visit and delivery of services.  In addition to the 5 Critical Areas, this course will introduce the study of body language and how our professional communication is imperative for safety when managing difficult people, those who are angry, and/or those suffering from Substance Abuse Disorder, and other scenarios where our safety may be in jeopardy.

Adult Peer Support Training

* Self-pay participants may request a reduced fee scholarship application when they submit their program application.

New Vista is approved by the Kentucky Department of Behavioral Health to present this 30-hour program offering the curriculum required to become a certified Adult Peer Support Specialist in Kentucky. Trainings are open to anyone in recovery from mental health, substance use or co-occurring disorder interested in working as a PSS. Seating is limited and we do not keep a waitlist.

Advancing Skills in Motivational Interviewing

This one day workshop will help participants build on Motivational Interviewing (MI) foundations toward increasing skillfulness. The session will focus specifically on practicing the selective and differential use of reflective listening for softening sustain talk and cultivating change talk.
