About Us

Bluegrass.org Oakwood is an Intermediate Care Facility supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The facility opened in 1972 and is located in scenic Somerset, Kentucky, which is nestled between Lake Cumberland and the Daniel Boone National Forest.  Our goal is to assist people to develop skills and interests that will help them to reach personal goals and live meaningful, balanced lives.  We offer services that focus on wellness, community living, work, and leisure in a safe environment.  We provide employment opportunities on and off campus.  We create numerous products that are sold via our website and our off campus store, bluegrass.org Expressions.

During the last 4 years, Oakwood has been involved in a Settlement Agreement and a transformation process.  The facility has successfully shifted from a traditional institution to a Resource Center.  In addition to the variety of services on campus, we also utilize a Mobile Crisis Team to assist families and agencies across the state.  We are a resource for behavioral, habilitation, therapeutic, and medical needs.  We are proud of our partnerships with advocacy groups, universities, and medical specialists.  We are a host site for continued education classes, as well as internships and practicums.

Oakwood, managed by bluegrass.org, is not Joint Commission accredited.
